The letter F is brought to you today by…

F

Today’s post is about the wise in my theme of “Healthy, Wealthy?, and Wise”, because the letter “F” is for friends, and how really good friends can increase our inner wisdom.  I spent the afternoon today helping a dear friend as he hosted a Democratic candidate meet and greet at his home.  Attending a political meet and greet is not my idea of a good time, but having wonderful friends and maintaining those relationships are very important to me – hence my volunteering.

There’s a saying that I’m sure you’ve heard a million times – “…no man is an island…” by the 17th century English author John Donne.  This is so very true.  Humans are social animals, pack animals, and we need to be around others of our kind – some of us more so than others.  The interaction of ideas, beliefs, and emotions shared with others fires my brain and  helps me to think deeper, be more creative, and love more freely.  I don’t need a lot of friends –  I’m definitely not a social butterfly – but having a few close friends are crucial to my development to become the best person I can be.  I’ve lost friends over the years; some relationships ended by them, and some I ended.  But I’ve found that true friends are those who will accept you for who you are, will love you for being you, and are willing to lend a hand whenever a hand is needed.

I hope you have at least one true friend who either keeps you sane, or goes along with your madness!  🙂
