Getting Healthy and the Blogging from A-Z Challenge

A2Z-2013-BADGE-001Small_zps669396f9

Welcome to Along the Way with Julia!  I’m so psyched to be participating in the 2013 Blogging A-Z Challenge!  I stumbled onto the challenge last April (around the 26th, 27th), but it was too late to join, so I’ve literally been waiting all year to do this!

I’ve read the different suggestions/tips that would show up in my inbox, and decided that as a newbie it might be easier to have a theme.  Let me tell you, themes do NOT  just “pop up” in my brain!  I was starting to get bummed because I couldn’t think of anything, until I was hiking near my home and all of a sudden it hit me – do a theme based on hiking in the Sonoran Desert!  So, the theme I’m going with for the next 30 days is….

Flora, Fauna, and Hiking Trails of the Northern Sonoran Desert

This is the first time I’ve actually hiked on a regular basis – before it would be a random occurrence that would take place once in 15 years!  But I need to get into better shape health wise, and I joined an exercise challenge through my job – it’s called the “150 Mile Cardio Club”.  I have ten weeks to get in an extra 150 miles.  I have to keep track of the extra miles I rack every day, and turn in a log at the end of each week.  There’s also a weigh-in every two weeks, where I can earn two bonus miles each time.  If I’m successful, then I’ll earn an extra $50 – and being a single parent means that every extra $$$ I can get is helpful!  Plus, I need to lose a few pounds, and the whole Pilates/yoga/elliptical machines thing at the local gym just isn’t doing it for me.

So, grab your virtual hiking boots – these are the ones I bought on sale for $20.00 at the local Big 5 Sporting Goods Store – and hit the trails of the Northern Sonoran Desert with me!
